A mother and daughter navigate the grueling reality of drug addiction and the path to recovery over a critical period of time.

The story

A year after last seeing her, 31-year-old Margaret "Molly" Wheeler seeks her mother Deb's help to enter detox for her long-standing drug addiction. Deb, wary of becoming an enabler, is initially hesitant but eventually agrees to take Molly to a treatment facility. Upon arrival, it is revealed that Molly has struggled with addiction for over a decade and has lost custody of her children. The story follows the pair as they navigate the initial stages of Molly's recovery process, during which Molly must remain sober for a specific period before she can receive a life-changing medication to help manage her condition.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Molly, a woman struggling with a decade-long drug addiction, seeks her mother Deb's help to enter detox. After a period of hesitation, Deb agrees to help her. During the process, it is revealed that Molly has lost custody of her children and is on her 15th attempt at recovery. Molly is prescribed naltrexone but must wait several days before receiving the first shot. Over the course of several days at home, the two women share their pasts; Deb reveals her history of fleeing an abusive marriage, and Molly reveals she gave up a child for adoption. On the third day, Molly speaks to a class of children about her experiences. A complication arises when insurance issues delay Molly's medical treatment by three days. During this time, Molly relapses. On the day of her appointment, she admits the relapse to Deb. At the treatment center, Molly receives the shot but enters acute withdrawal and is hospitalized. Four months later, the film concludes with Molly still living with Deb and making progress toward recovery.
