Working with his loyal friend and assistant Dagobert Fix, Fox soon identifies a prime suspect: the eccentric, enigmatic scientist Professor Cardallhan.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

It is already a grim tradition: every Friday the 13th, a member of the von Eulenstein family dies. This time, it was Herbert, lord of the castle, who was found dead in the pavilion in the castle garden. The murderer had apparently sent the old man to the next world with a high-voltage electric current. Marcell von Eulenstein, the murdered man’s son and principal heir, hires detective Engelbert Fox to investigate the case. In the course of his investigation, working with his loyal friend and assistant Dagobert Fix, Fox soon identifies a prime suspect: an enigmatic scientist named Professor Cardallhan, who seems somewhat eccentric and confused. Fox and Fix discover that Cardallhan is in fact related to the Eulensteins and, as in Kind Hearts and Coronets, had planned to kill off one relative after another so that he could eventually claim the inheritance himself.
