A presumed-dead Jason Voorhees escapes from a morgue to resume his killing spree at Crystal Lake.

The story

Following a series of murders at Higgins Haven, the body of Jason Voorhees is taken to a morgue where he spontaneously revives and escapes. The next day, a group of teenagers travels to Crystal Lake for a summer trip, encountering a hitchhiker and a tombstone along the way. Nearby, the Jarvis family lives in a house where the children, Trish and Tommy, meet the teens. As the teenagers begin a party, Jason begins picking them off one by one, leading to a desperate struggle for survival as the teens and the Jarvis children realize the killer is still active.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After escaping a morgue, Jason Voorhees begins murdering people at Crystal Lake. A group of teenagers—Paul, Samantha, Sara, Doug, Jimmy, and Ted—arrive for a summer trip and encounter a hitchhiker whom Jason kills. Nearby, the Jarvis family lives in a house where Trish and Tommy meet the teens. During a party, Jason kills Samantha, Paul, and Terri. Mrs. Jarvis is killed offscreen, and Trish and Tommy discover her missing. Rob, a local man, warns Trish that Jason is alive and seeking revenge for his sister. Jason then murders Jimmy, Ted, and Doug, eventually killing Sara. Trish and Rob investigate the bodies and are hunted by Jason. Trish manages to lure Jason away, but she is eventually overpowered. Tommy, who has been disguised as a child, distracts Jason long enough for Trish to strike him with a machete, only to realize she has only removed his mask. Tommy then hacks at Jason's body until he collapses. The film ends with Tommy visiting Trish at the hospital, where he embraces her with an ominous look in his eyes.
