The story

In the 1880s, Celestin is a respectable music teacher at a convent school who leads a double life as Floridor, the composer of an operetta about to premiere. In that guise, he crosses swords with a captain in the town’s small garrison. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Parsberg, known as a heartbreaker, learns that his parents have arranged for him to marry a woman he has never met.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The story is set in the 1880s. Celestin, the respectable music teacher at a convent school, leads a lively double life: under the pseudonym Floridor, he has composed an operetta whose premiere is imminent, and as Floridor he crosses swords with a captain in the small garrison stationed in the same town. At the same time, Lieutenant Parsberg, known as a heartbreaker, learns that his parents have decided behind his back that he must marry a girl he has never met. The story follows how, by a roundabout route and through a number of misunderstandings, the lieutenant falls in love with his fiancée, whom he had initially rejected, and how—despite all the complications—Celestin, or Floridor, achieves great success with his stage work and the expected happy ending comes about. This is the plot of this rollicking musical comedy.
