Mark stays in Frühling and takes Henry in, hoping to help the animal and ease the conflict. Meanwhile, village helper Katja Baumann supports her friend Dr. Schneiderhahn, whose mother Elisa has an inoperable brain tumor and little time left. Elisa’s dearest wish is to visit the sea again, and Katja and the doctor try to make it possible.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Veterinarian Mark Weber is on his way back from Katja’s surprise birthday party when he collides with a horse. Although he is actually heading to Leipzig, he promises the young rider, Charlotte, that he will nurse her stallion, Henry, back to health. He has no idea that this will put him in serious conflict with Charlotte’s mother, Luisa, because she is adamantly opposed to having the animal treated. She considers the stallion dangerous and blames him for the fatal riding accident that killed her husband a year ago. Mark realizes that he will have to stay in Frühling for a while, so he suggests taking Henry in for the duration of his treatment. Along with Filippa, he devotes himself to caring for the animal, who is clearly suffering from his owner’s rejection. Mark learns that Charlotte’s mother partly blames herself for her husband’s accident. He therefore hopes that Luisa and Henry can find their way back to each other, and that this might solve the whole problem. The village helper, Katja Baumann, as always, looks after people in the community of Frühling who need her help. This time, it is Dr. Schneiderhahn, a doctor who is also a personal friend of Katja’s. Dr. Schneiderhahn is worried about her mother, Elisa, who has an inoperable brain tumor and not much longer to live. Katja helps care for the elderly woman and learns about her greatest wish. Elisa would dearly love to visit the island of Sylt one more time, where she and her now-deceased husband had enjoyed particularly happy times. To grant Elisa her last wish, Katja and Dr. Schneiderhahn do everything they can, and with the support of hospital director Gabriel, they arrange an ambulance so the elderly woman can see the sea once more. However, the North Sea turns out to be too far away, so the women simply take the shorter route south to Grado to reach the sea. Elisa eventually realizes that they have tricked her, but she is still happy to feel the sand beneath her feet one more time.
