Full plot (contains spoilers)
Eighteen-year-old Susanne works as a skilled laborer at a textile factory. She is always ready to help, listens to everyone, and is socially engaged. At home, she takes care of the household for her father and brother. Her own needs come last and go unnoticed by those around her. Susanne loves Lutz, whom she grew up with and befriended, but he sees her only as the little girl she used to be. It is only when she learns that her selfish friend Daisy is expecting Lutz’s child that Susanne realizes she has to change her life and stop always being there for others. She grows more self-confident and, despite a few setbacks, manages to win Lutz over. The two enjoy a happy time together. Her transformation ultimately also helps her let Lutz go when, driven by wanderlust, he sets off to see the world.
