A portrait of football legend Garrincha, told through memories of people close to him.
The story
The life of Garrincha, known as the “angel with crooked legs,” is presented on and off the football field, contrasting his public myth with his humble beginnings as an illiterate man from the countryside. In 1980, the samba school Mangueira pays tribute to him, and he rides in a specially prepared carnival float. From this framing, memories shared by people close to him—including Elza Soares, Iraci, Sandro Moreyra, and Nilton Santos—offer differing perspectives on his personality and life.
