Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film’s plot follows the literary source: Ines, Garcin, and Estelle are three dead people who arrive in hell, where a servant locks them together in a room. They talk about their past lives, and it becomes clear that each of them has incurred serious guilt. They torment one another with accusations, repelled by one another but also drawn to one another. They realize that the room is not a preliminary stage before a real hell of physical torment; instead, they are condemned to torment one another for eternity. Garcin sums it up: “Hell is other people.”
