Full plot (contains spoilers)

Chris Washington travels to upstate New York to meet his girlfriend Rose's family. While there, he is subjected to a hypnotherapy session by Rose's mother, Missy, which plunges his consciousness into the 'sunken place.' During a large party, Chris encounters a man named Logan who warns him to 'get out' before being restrained by the family. Chris eventually discovers that the Armitages are part of a secret society that transplants the consciousness of wealthy white people into the bodies of Black people. After Rose reveals her role as an accomplice, Chris is trapped in the basement. He eventually escapes, bludgeons several antagonists, and sets the house on fire. He manages to escape the property in a car, only to be confronted by Rose and a man named Walter. During a struggle, Chris uses his phone's flash to free Walter from his mental prison. Walter shoots Rose and himself, and Chris is eventually rescued by his friend Rod, leaving Rose to bleed out on the road.
