The story

In the summer of 2006, 17-year-old Coley moves to rural Oregon to live with her estranged father, Curtis, following the death of her mother. While at a local restaurant, she meets a girl named Sonya and a group of friends. The two girls begin to spend time together, forming a close bond as they navigate the summer. However, the burgeoning friendship is complicated by the presence of Sonya's possessive boyfriend, Trenton, and the heavy emotional weight of Coley's past. As the summer progresses, the girls must navigate their growing feelings for one another while dealing with the realities of their personal lives.

In the summer of 2006, 17-year-old Coley moves to rural Oregon to live with her estranged father, Curtis, after her mother's death. She meets Sonya, a local girl, and they form a deep bond over shared moments, including a secret spot by the railroad tracks where Coley reveals her trauma. The two share a passionate kiss, but Sonya later pulls away, claiming she isn't ready to be open about her feelings. Coley falls into a depression and briefly seeks solace in a physical encounter with a local man, Blake. Meanwhile, Coley reconciles with her father, Curtis, who reveals he loved both her and her mother. The tension peaks when Coley learns that Sonya's friends have been gossiping about her mother's death. Eventually, Sonya and her boyfriend Trenton break up. In the final moments, Sonya admits her feelings for Coley, and the two share a kiss in the street, finally choosing to be together.
