Gli eroi (1973)

During the Second World War in North Africa, the fortunes of people from different nationalities and armies become intertwined. They include Bob (Rod Taylor), an American of Italian descent; the French petty thief Raphale (Claude Brasseur); Spartaco (Aldo Giuffré), a Neapolitan deserter; Red Cross nurse Katrin (Rosanna Schiaffino); and Gunther (Rod Steiger), a German who dislikes his superiors and longs to return to civilian life, where he held the title of baron and was a motor-racing champion. Fate brings them all together during a battle, at the end of which they find several crates full of pounds sterling in an ambulance. A long pursuit then begins, with each trying to get their hands on the loot, while Major John Cooper (Terry-Thomas) follows their trail to return the money to the British Army. After several twists and turns, Katrin comes out on top: she had faked her death and buried the money, then retrieved it once the war was over. But when she arrives at the spot, she finds Major Cooper waiting for her; he had patiently waited to discover where the money was hidden.
