An undercover agent enters a transnational drug network, where a second infiltrator’s identity remains unknown.

The story

Marek Belghazi, an undercover agent with the BRI, infiltrates an armed-robbery gang and escapes in a way that makes him appear to be on the run. His superior, Jean-Dominique Paoli, assigns him to help gather evidence against a drug-trafficking network in Clichy-sous-Bois. After a surveillance operation ends in the deaths of four officers and a key suspect escapes, Marek is transferred to the RAID for a larger infiltration requested by a DEA representative in Paris. Following intensive training, he assumes the identity Slimane Bensaïd and joins the network run by the Langlois brothers. As he travels to collect drugs, Marek knows another undercover agent is embedded in the organization but does not know who they are.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Marek Belghazi is an undercover agent with the BRI. During an operation in which he has infiltrated a gang of armed robbers, he manages to escape and make it look as though he is on the run. His superior, Jean-Dominique Paoli, explains that they have been tasked with gathering evidence to bring down a drug-trafficking network in Clichy-sous-Bois, whose leaders are Martinez and N'Diaye. While Marek monitors communications, four police officers, including Paoli, are keeping watch from an apartment in the housing estate. They film and record conversations, and manage to capture the arrival of a large drug convoy on camera. The lookouts spot them, and Martinez has them murdered. Marek knows who is responsible, and during a police operation he arrests Martinez, but N'Diaye escapes. Marek pursues him, but N'Diaye goes through the sewers, stopping Marek, who cannot swim. With no evidence, Martinez is released, while Marek is furious. His superior transfers him to the heart of the RAID after the DEA representative in Paris requests an agent to infiltrate a transnational drug-trafficking network. Marek undergoes intensive training with the RAID and learns to swim. Under the assumed name Slimane Bensaïd, Marek then infiltrates the drug-trafficking network run by the Langlois brothers. He travels as far as Málaga in Spain and then to Morocco to collect a large quantity of cannabis and cocaine. He knows that another undercover agent is in the network, but does not know the identity that agent is using. During the journey, they are ambushed by Saïd (a former member of the Langlois gang who has decided to go it alone, believing Wilfrid Langlois was not paying him enough) and an accomplice, but they get away by killing Saïd and his accomplice. They turn back and return to Málaga, where Martinez and N'Diaye are. A new convoy is prepared, with three cars: Marek will travel with N'Diaye. Just before the border, Martinez realizes that Marek is an undercover agent and warns the others. N'Diaye is killed just as he is about to shoot Marek, by Gladys, Wilfrid's girlfriend, who turns out to be the undercover agent. Marek pursues Martinez through the surrounding fields and incapacitates him by shooting him in the legs. Finally, Marek accompanies Paoli's widow and orphan to the airport; they are going to visit Marek's father in Morocco. He then welcomes Gladys.
