James Bond must stop a rogue agent from using a satellite weapon to trigger a global financial collapse.
The story
In the post-Cold War era, MI6 agent James Bond is tasked with investigating a mysterious electromagnetic pulse that has disabled several satellite systems. Bond discovers the blast originated from a Soviet-era satellite armed with a nuclear electromagnetic pulse weapon known as 'GoldenEye'. Suspecting the involvement of a rogue ex-MI6 agent, Bond must navigate a web of international intrigue and clandestine organizations to locate the weapon before it can be used to cause a global financial collapse. The mission takes him from the streets of Saint Petersburg to the jungles of Cuba as he faces off against a dangerous syndicate and a vengeful former ally.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a mysterious electromagnetic pulse from a Soviet-era satellite named 'GoldenEye' hits a radar site, James Bond is assigned to investigate. He discovers the weapon is being controlled by a rogue agent, Alec Trevelyan, who seeks revenge for his family's past. Bond teams up with various allies, including a programmer named Natalya Simonova, to track down the weapon's location. The journey takes them through several international locations, including a high-stakes pursuit on a train and a confrontation in the jungles of Cuba. Bond eventually reaches the secret base where the satellite is controlled. In a final confrontation, Bond and Natalya must sabotage the system while fighting off Trevelyan and his henchwoman, Xenia Onatopp. The film concludes with the destruction of the GoldenEye satellite and the defeat of the Janus syndicate, though the aftermath leaves Bond and Natalya in the custody of U.S. forces.
