A dysfunctional family must confront their internal conflicts and shared grief as they gather to care for their dying mother during the Christmas season.

The story

Two weeks before Christmas, elderly June Cheshire collapses at home while battling cancer. Her husband Bernie, son Connor, and daughters Julia and Molly gather to care for her as her health rapidly declines. The family is deeply fractured: Julia and Molly are constantly at odds, Connor struggles with a lack of direction, and the eldest daughter, Helen, has distanced herself emotionally. As the family navigates the reality of June's impending death, they are forced to confront their dysfunctional dynamics and the complexities of their relationships while trying to find moments of connection and love during the holiday season.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Elderly June Cheshire, battling cancer for three years, collapses at home. Her family—husband Bernie, son Connor, and daughters Julia, Molly, and Helen—gather to care for her. The family is dysfunctional: Julia and Molly argue constantly, Connor is directionless, and Helen lives a secluded life in Germany. As June's health fails, the family must navigate their fractured relationships. Julia and Molly are forced into a situation where they finally reconcile. Connor and his father, Bernie, find common ground after a period of estrangement. Realizing June will pass before Christmas, Bernie organizes a nativity show for her in the hospital. June dies during the performance. One year later, the family gathers again; Helen has given birth, and Connor is seen with Nurse Angeli. The film ends with a recording of a letter June wrote for her grandchild, expressing her love for her family.
