Two years after the events of the first film, a new generation of students at Rydell High navigates romance and rivalry.

The story

In September 1961, two years after the events of the prior film, students arrive at Rydell High to start a new academic year. Among them are the trendy 'bad-girl' Pink Ladies and the laid-back, motorcycle-riding ruffian T-Birds. Stephanie Zinone, the new leader of the Pink Ladies, feels she has 'outgrown' her relationship with ex-boyfriend Johnny Nogerelli, the arrogant bully leader of the T-Birds. Clean-cut British student Michael Carrington is introduced to the atmosphere by former Pink Lady Frenchy. Michael eventually meets Stephanie and quickly becomes smitten with her, leading to a series of romantic entanglements and social conflicts between the two cliques.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In September 1961, two years after the events of the prior film, students arrive at Rydell High. Stephanie Zinone, leader of the Pink Ladies, has outgrown her relationship with Johnny Nogerelli, leader of the T-Birds. Michael Carrington, a clean-cut British student, meets Stephanie and becomes smitten. After a series of interactions at a bowling alley and school, Stephanie kisses Michael. Michael begins covertly selling homework to the T-Birds to save money for a motorcycle. Meanwhile, a mysterious 'Cool Rider' defeats a rival motorcycle gang, the Cycle Lords, astounding Stephanie. Stephanie eventually accepts Michael's help with her grades. Johnny demands Stephanie denounce her association with the Pink Ladies. Stephanie and the Cool Rider reunite at the school talent show, but the T-Birds ambush them, pursuing them to a construction site. Stephanie fears the Cool Rider has perished. During a performance, Stephanie enters a dreamlike fantasy world where she reunites with her mystery biker. She is named winner of the contest and crowned Queen and King of the upcoming graduation luau. The Cycle Lords gatecrash the luau, but the Cool Rider reappears, overpowers them, and reveals himself as Michael. Johnny welcomes him into the T-Birds, and Michael and Stephanie cement their relationship with a kiss. All couples pair-off happily as the senior class graduates.
