A father must navigate a chaotic journey to reach a remote bunker as a catastrophic comet threatens to destroy civilization.
The story
Structural engineer John Garrity lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his estranged wife, Allison, and their diabetic son, Nathan. While preparing to watch the near-earth passing of a recently discovered interstellar comet nicknamed "Clarke," John receives an automated message that his family has been selected for emergency sheltering. However, the comet's path shifts, and a fragment strikes a nearby city, causing immediate devastation. With the comet on a direct collision course to Earth, causing an extinction-level event in two days, the family must navigate a crumbling infrastructure and desperate crowds to reach a designated evacuation site.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
John Garrity, his wife Allison, and their son Nathan are forced to flee their home in Atlanta after a comet fragment strikes nearby. They attempt to reach a military base for an evacuation flight, but the process is complicated by a missing medical supply for Nathan and a panicked mob. After a series of dangerous encounters, including a kidnapping attempt by others seeking to board a flight, the family eventually reunites and travels toward a bunker complex in Greenland. They reach the bunker just as the largest fragment hits Earth, devastating civilization. Nine months later, the bunker makes radio contact with other survivors, and the family emerges as the atmosphere begins to clear.
