Five lifelong friends reunite for a weekend at a lake house following the death of their former coach.
The story
In 1978, childhood friends Lenny Feder, Eric Lamonsoff, Kurt McKenzie, Marcus Higgins, and Rob Hilliard won their junior high basketball championship and celebrated at a lake house with their coach Robert "Buzzer" Ferdinando. Thirty years later, in 2008, the five friends reunite for his funeral in their hometown. Lenny rents a lake house for the group to stay during the Fourth of July weekend. As the friends and their families gather, they navigate the complexities of their current lives while reminiscing about their past, eventually facing a long-standing rivalry from a former basketball opponent.

In 1978, five friends won their junior high basketball championship and celebrated with their coach, Buzzer. In 2008, the group reunites for Buzzer's funeral and stays at a lake house for the Fourth of July. The men deal with personal issues: Lenny is a successful agent, Eric is a struggling business owner, Kurt is a stay-at-home dad, Marcus is a slacker, and Rob is a man with multiple marriages. During the weekend, they visit a water park, where the families cause chaos and the men face various mishaps, including a friend getting injured on a zipline. Tensions peak when the men confront each other about their personal lives, leading to honest confessions about their struggles. On the final day, the friends face their old rival, Dickie, in a basketball rematch. Lenny intentionally loses the game to ensure his family experiences the joy of winning together, while the others enjoy the fireworks.
