Full plot (contains spoilers)

After a conflict with the Sovereign, the Guardians encounter a mysterious figure who reveals himself as Peter Quill's father, Ego, a god-like Celestial. While some members of the team join him on his home planet, others remain behind to protect the ship. Meanwhile, the Ravager leader Yondu and his crew are hired to hunt the Guardians, leading to a mutiny among his men. On Ego's planet, Quill learns of his heritage and his father's plan to use his power to transform the universe. Nebula and Gamora reconcile while trying to survive. Eventually, the full team reunites to stop Ego's plan. A massive battle ensues at the core of Ego's planet. Yondu sacrifices himself to save Quill, and the team ultimately destroys Ego, though the process drains Quill of his powers and destroys the planet. The film ends with the Guardians and a new member, Mantis, honoring Yondu's memory as the Ravagers acknowledge his sacrifice.
