Full plot (contains spoilers)
Berzan and Mehmet meet while looking out for one another in a fight that breaks out after a football match. Berzan has a cassette stall and serves in the militia of an illegal organization (probably the PKK). His father was killed in an unsolved murder. Mehmet is not even aware that he is Kurdish; when people ask, he says, “I’m from Tire.” He works for the water authority. Mehmet gets into trouble by chance: he is detained on a minibus because of a gun that does not belong to him. The state keeps him under surveillance. A cross marked on the door of the bachelor house where he is staying makes his friends uneasy, and he is thrown out. He is also fired from his job for the same reason. Berzan finds him somewhere to stay and another job. At the time, political prisoners at Bayrampaşa Prison are on hunger strike. Berzan is shot at a demonstration held for a political activist who has died. Mehmet takes the body to the land it belongs to. At his village, now submerged under water, he sets Berzan’s coffin afloat on the water.
