When bite marks point to a shark in Lake Müggelsee, returning shark hunter Snake Müller realizes the danger is real.
The story
During a morning water-temperature check at Friedrichshagen lido, a lifeguard is attacked, and the bite marks suggest a shark may be living in Lake Müggelsee. Shark hunter Snake Müller returns from Hawaii to his hometown of Friedrichshagen aboard his houseboat and soon realizes that a dangerous shark is indeed in the lake. As public concern grows, the mayor consults his experts but initially downplays the danger. On the advice of city-marketing officer Vera Baum, a shark alert is eventually declared, and the lake is closed to the public.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
During the morning water-temperature check, the right hand of the lifeguard at Friedrichshagen lido is mysteriously bitten off. The bite marks suggest that a shark is living in Lake Müggelsee. At the same time, shark hunter Snake Müller returns to his hometown of Friedrichshagen from Hawaii aboard his houseboat. He soon realizes that there really is a dangerous shark in the lake. The mayor consults his experts about the seriousness of the situation and initially plays down the danger. But concern among the population keeps growing. On the advice of city-marketing officer Vera Baum, a shark alert is eventually declared. Lake Müggelsee is closed to the public, and to distract the people of Friedrichshagen, the annual Bölschefest—a popular street festival with a long tradition—is simply extended indefinitely. Before long, however, the residents have had enough of the shark alert and loudly demonstrate, demanding that it be ended. In the end, the shark is to be driven out of Lake Müggelsee by releasing large quantities of beer from the Berliner Bürgerbräu brewery into the lake. After the beer is poured in, Snake Müller and his ex-wife use his boat to lead the shark away from Lake Müggelsee.
