Hai-Alarm auf Mallorca (2004)

During the peak tourist season on the holiday island of Mallorca, several horrific incidents occur. On a shark-cage-diving trip led by tour guides Javier, Carlos, and Maja, an unknown giant shark attacks the diving cage. At the last second, the group of divers is rescued by Sven Hansen, Maja’s father and a former combat swimmer, and marine biologist Julia Bennet. Shortly afterward, the giant shark claims its first victim: a young couple is dragged from a rowing boat and killed. The Mallorcan police deny that a shark attack is possible. Sven Hansen, however, is immediately certain that it must be a megalodon. In Hansen’s view, this supposedly extinct prehistoric shark was also responsible for his wife’s death a few years earlier. The Marine Biology Institute (MBI) conducts a DNA analysis using a shark tooth Hansen found, but the results show no match with a megalodon. Sven Hansen doubts the results and, with Julia Bennet’s help, uncovers the truth: under the direction of Dr. Verena Brandauer, the MBI cloned a megalodon in order to find a cure for cancer. During a severe storm on the holiday island, however, it escaped. The MBI then made unsuccessful attempts to recapture the megalodon alive. Sven Hansen is convinced that only the megalodon’s death can restore safety to Mallorca. The story culminates in a showdown out at sea, where Hansen kills the giant shark from a helicopter with a harpoon fitted with an explosive charge.
