Full plot (contains spoilers)
The siblings Alan, Jan, and Liya were born in Kurdistan but grew up in Stuttgart. They want to fulfill their mother’s last wish: to be buried in her Kurdish home village beside their father, who was killed during the Iraq War under Saddam Hussein’s regime. On their journey to the Kurdish part of Iraq, the siblings are confronted not only by relatives who disagree with their mother’s final wish, but also with the fact that over the years they themselves have become mentally distanced from their old homeland and have now each begun a life of their own. Rifts between the siblings also emerge. Conflicts in their homeland, which has become unfamiliar to them, escalate, and their precarious journey heads toward catastrophe.
