Full plot (contains spoilers)
The story shown in the film consists of four intertwined episodes, most of which are told out of chronological order. Bolz runs away from his parents’ house. Together with Jolly, who has escaped from boarding school, he goes to Graz, where the two spend the day with Jolly’s group of friends. Late that night, the police finally pick up Jolly, Bolz, and Jolly’s girlfriend, Elli. When the police try to drop Jolly off at his mother’s, but she will not let him into the house, Bolz threatens the officers with a gun; the three run away again. Jolly’s mother, Gabi, decides to leave her son at boarding school for the weekend so she can have more time to herself. She goes out with a friend and runs into her boss, Helmut. After going to a disco, Gabi and Helmut spend the night at Gabi’s house, until the police interrupt them to deliver Jolly. After sending them away, she regrets her decision and goes to the police station. On her way back, she is hit by a car. Karin Bolz, the mother of (Klaus) Bolz, suffers at the hands of her violent husband. Late one evening, her son comes home. After Klaus forces her at knifepoint to give him her savings book, he leaves again. The next day, Karin visits her seriously ill mother in the hospital, who dies later that day. Not knowing where to go, Karin spends the night at the hospital. Jolly hurries to the hospital with Bolz and Elli, where the doctors inform him and his father that Gabi is in critical condition. Bolz runs into his mother at the hospital, but decides not to go home with her and instead to wait for Jolly. The prostitute Lara meets Frank, who is blind, as Jolly’s group of friends make fun of his helplessness. She offers to help him; the two end up spending the day together and go on an outing in the countryside. Late that night, they drive back to Graz while drunk.
