Helden - Wenn Dein Land Dich braucht (2013)

One day, a communications satellite crashes into the Reichstag building. The German federal government still suspects a terrorist attack when planes begin falling from the sky and all communications collapse. Germany, along with the rest of the world, is in a state of emergency. The young scientist Sophie Ritter immediately realizes that an experiment has gone wrong at the research center in Geneva: using the so-called “God Machine,” the world’s largest particle accelerator (modeled on CERN’s Large Hadron Collider), scientists there simulated a Big Bang and accidentally created a black hole, which is now altering Earth’s gravity. An electromagnetic pulse knocks out infrastructure, while mountains and trenches spontaneously form across Europe. Sophie had already warned about the machine’s risks in her dissertation, but no one believed her at the time. At the German chancellor’s request, Sophie sets out for Geneva to stop the experiment, accompanied by her ex-boyfriend Marc Weber, who wants to save his sister Andrea and his daughter Johanna, who are inside the research center’s security zone with a kindergarten group. Desperate, they search for the young hacker Tobias at the Tropical Islands leisure park in Brandenburg; the shutdown codes for the particle accelerator are on his laptop. Since the accident destroyed the data center in Geneva, the particle accelerator can no longer be stopped from there. On their way, they meet Willi, a former miner, and his wife Rosi, who are evacuating a threatened hospital into a disused mine tunnel. Sophie and Marc reach the particle accelerator, where Sophie manages to upload the shutdown codes and shut down the machine. The nuclear missile fired by a military jet to destroy it can then be diverted into Lake Geneva by the pilot, who deactivates its warhead.
