Full plot (contains spoilers)
After his mother dies, Jakob (Tom Schilling) leaves home in the middle of the school year and moves in with his father in Berlin. When he is unhappy there too, he moves in with his sister Petra in Frankfurt; this is where the film begins. Petra (Anna von Berg) has just been left by her boyfriend, is pregnant, and already has her eight-year-old son Patrick to care for. Jakob decides to help her. When he meets Wanda (Alicja Bachleda-Curuś), a Polish au pair, he falls in love with her; Wanda, however, is hesitant. Jakob is jealous of Dirk (Matthias Schweighöfer), who is also making advances toward Wanda. Moreover, Wanda’s host parents do not like Jakob. To top it all off, he also has to deal with Helmut (Sebastian Kroehnert), his former Scout buddy. Despite all this, Jakob and Wanda gradually grow closer.
