The story

Taking place some time after the events of the first film, Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez, and the Wildcats find summer jobs at a country club. However, tensions rise when Sharpay Evans recruits Troy for a talent show performance. To secure his position, Troy accepts on the condition that the club hires Gabriella and their other friends as well. Troy must work to rebuild their confidence and convince them to persevere despite the challenges of their new environment.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

On the last day of school, Troy Bolton seeks a summer job to pay for college. Sharpay Evans arranges for him to be hired at her family's country club, Lava Springs, on the condition that his friends, the Wildcats, are also hired. Sharpay tries to make their work miserable, but Troy encourages them to persevere. Troy and Gabriella's friend Kelsi Nielsen writes a song for them, while Sharpay tries to force Troy into a duet with her. Troy is eventually promoted and given a chance to play with the University of Albuquerque basketball team, leading him to reluctantly agree to sing in the talent show. Gabriella's friend Taylor warns her about Troy's potential ambitions. Sharpay eventually bans junior staff from the show, causing Gabriella to quit and leave Troy. After Troy resolves to make things right, he gets his old job back and convinces Sharpay to lift the restriction. Ryan gives Troy a new song, 'Everyday,' which he sings with Gabriella as the Wildcats join them onstage. Sharpay presents Ryan with the award, and the film ends with the Wildcats celebrating at a pool party.
