The story
In New York, Alex "Hitch" Hitchens is a professional "date doctor" who coaches other men in the art of wooing women, with the main focus of achieving genuine long-term relationships. While coaching a client, Albert Brennaman, who is smitten with a celebrity, Hitch finds himself falling for Sara Melas, a gossip columnist and cynical workaholic. However, he faces a significant challenge: none of his established romantic methods work on her. To protect his professional image, he keeps his career as a matchmaker a secret, identifying himself only as a "consultant" while navigating the complexities of his feelings for Sara.

Alex "Hitch" Hitchens is a professional "date doctor" in New York who coaches men to win over women. While helping a client, Albert Brennaman, win over celebrity Allegra Cole, Hitch falls for Sara Melas, a cynical gossip columnist. Because his methods fail on her, he keeps his profession secret. The situation spirals when a man named Vance Munson, whom Hitch refused to help, tricks Sara into believing he used Hitch's services. This leads to a scandal where Sara publishes an exposé, causing Albert to be arrested, Allegra to break up with him, and Hitch's reputation to suffer. At a speed dating event, Hitch explains the necessity of his work to Sara and her friend Casey. He eventually realizes that his clients were successful because they were simply being themselves. He helps reconcile Albert and Allegra, and he and Sara repair their relationship. The film ends with a celebration where Albert and Allegra get married, and a dance party ensues.
