Full plot (contains spoilers)
On a mountain meadow above St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang, Pastor Hannes Jagermüller performs weddings. Hotelier and mayor Oskar Lindner tries to forbid him from doing so and plans to build a hotel, a cable car, and ski runs there to create jobs. Jagermüller opposes the plans as a member of the town council. Tristan Meyer, who comes from St. Gilgen and is Mayor Lindner’s nephew, and his girlfriend Eva Ebner, from Berlin, also want to get married there. The owner of the land is Senta Viotti, Tristan’s childhood sweetheart, who is still in love with him and tries to prevent the wedding. The municipality would like to buy the land from her. Lindner offers Senta a 15 percent stake, which would allow the Viottis to keep their palace. Lindner demands that his nephew leave Eva because she is not suited to St. Gilgen, and marry Senta instead, since she would be a “good match.” The singing Italian celebrity chef Enrico Beloni is supposed to inherit Ristorante Mario, on the condition that he takes care of the late Mario’s female dog. To do so, he has to overcome his aversion to dogs. If he does not claim the inheritance, it will go to the municipality, which is why the mayor is already planning a renovation. Senta is also searching for her biological father. According to Senta’s mother, Elsa Viotti, who used to be called Elsa Charell, the candidates are Mayor Lindner, the Reverend Jagermüller, and chef Enrico Beloni. Oskar was a bellboy at the hotel where Elsa stayed in 1977, and Enrico worked in the kitchen. Hannes had shown her the churches of Venice. Lindner hires actor Tobi Bischof, the twin brother of the Archbishop of Salzburg. He is to impersonate the archbishop and influence Pastor Jagermüller so that he will support the mayor’s plans. However, the real Archbishop of Salzburg shows up in the meantime. Lindner mistakes him for the actor he hired, while the pastor mistakes the actor for the real archbishop. The deception is soon exposed, though. Eva becomes jealous of Senta, who continues to pursue Tristan, and calls off the wedding. Senta makes a deal with Lindner: she will hand over the mountain to him, and in return he must ensure that Tristan marries her. At the altar on the mountain meadow, Tristan leaves Senta standing there, while Eva approaches the wedding party from the air on a paraglider. Eva and Tristan celebrate their wedding at Enrico’s restaurant. Senta transfers the mountain to Hannes. Elsa offers Oskar a stake in her palace, where she wants to run a hotel. Senta believes she has identified the taxi driver as her biological father by means of a birthmark.
