An architect’s psychological problems deepen after psychiatric care intensifies his nightmares and fear that he may harm his wife.
The story
Architect Marc Hoffmann is struggling with sleep problems and psychological distress after a serious mistake costs him his job. Following a near collision caused by his own carelessness, his condition worsens: he begins experiencing hallucinations and hitting his wife, Sarah. Seeing no other way forward, Sarah sends him to a psychiatrist. But the care he receives intensifies his nightmares, and Marc becomes increasingly afraid of what his troubled mind may lead him to do.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The architect Marc Hoffmann is clearly experiencing psychological problems: After making a serious mistake, he loses his job, and shortly afterward he is nearly hit by a car through his own carelessness. He has been suffering from sleep problems for some time, and more recently he has begun having hallucinations and hitting his wife, Sarah. When Sarah can see no other way out of the situation, she sends Marc to a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, the idea proves unsuccessful, because the psychiatric care Marc now finds himself receiving makes his nightmares worse: from then on, he believes his dead father is pursuing him in his dreams and egging him on to kill his own wife. Marc feels at risk of killing his wife, just as his own father once killed his wife, Marc’s mother.
