Full plot (contains spoilers)
In Chicago, the McCallister family prepares for a trip to Miami. During a chaotic rush through the airport, 10-year-old Kevin mistakenly boards a flight to New York City. While his family is in Miami, Kevin finds himself alone in New York, initially enjoying his freedom at the Plaza Hotel. However, he is soon confronted by Harry and Marv, the 'Wet Bandits' who were thwarted by Kevin the previous year. Kevin eventually takes refuge in his uncle's vacant townhouse. He befriends a homeless woman known as the Pigeon Lady and decides to help her by foiling a planned robbery by the bandits at a nearby toy store. After setting up a series of booby traps in the townhouse, Kevin lures the bandits into his trap, causing them to be repeatedly injured. After a chaotic confrontation in Central Park involving the Pigeon Lady and a flock of birds, the police arrest the bandits. Kevin eventually reunites with his mother, Kate, at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and they reconcile before the arrival of gifts from the toy store owner.
