She discovers that three other students are also in consideration for the letter: star athlete Travis Biggins, creative introvert Kennedy Park, and the academically brilliant Michael Dipnicky. Honor resolves to eliminate all of them from contention with the help of her friends, Emma and Talia, beginning a series of schemes to sabotage her rivals' grades and reputations.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Honor Rose, a high school senior aiming for Harvard, seeks a recommendation letter from her counselor, Mr. Calvin. She identifies three rivals—Travis, Kennedy, and Michael—and begins a campaign to sabotage them. She joins the theatre club to distract Kennedy and persuades Travis to join, hoping to ruin his athletic prestige. She also attempts to distract Michael by becoming his lab partner and inviting him over for study sessions. However, she finds herself genuinely attracted to Michael's kindness. After a series of events, including a kiss and a relationship, Honor realizes Michael is actually very wealthy and just as manipulative as she is; he duped her into falling in love to secure the recommendation for himself. Heartbroken, Honor breaks up with him. Meanwhile, she has formed genuine bonds with Kennedy and Travis, helping them come out of their shells. In a final move, Honor blackmails Mr. Calvin into giving the recommendation to Kennedy instead of Michael by playing a recording of his sexual propositions. She ultimately decides to enjoy her senior year with her new friends.
