A vampire couple struggles to navigate parenthood when their young son fails to manifest any supernatural abilities.

The story

Several years after the events of the first film, Mavis and Johnny are married and have a young son named Dennis. However, Dennis has yet to grow his fangs, causing concern for his parents and his grandfather, Dracula. Mavis considers moving to Johnny's hometown in California to give Dennis a 'normal' childhood, much to Dracula's disapproval. To prevent this, Dracula enlists his friends to help Dennis become a vampire. The group travels to various locations, including a summer camp, in a desperate attempt to trigger the boy's transformation into a vampire.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After the first film, Mavis and Johnny marry and have a son, Dennis. As Dennis approaches his fifth birthday without growing fangs, Mavis wants to move to California for a normal life, while Dracula wants him to stay in Transylvania. Dracula tries to 'babysit' Dennis and enlists his friends to force a transformation, including a failed attempt at a summer camp where a tower collapses and sets the camp on fire. Meanwhile, Mavis visits Johnny's parents in California. After a frightening incident involving a video of Dennis falling, they return to Transylvania. Dracula hosts a party for Johnny's family but is forced to hide them from his father, Vlad, who is even more hateful of humans. Vlad attempts to frighten Dennis into growing fangs using a possessed performer, but Dracula intervenes. An upset Dennis flees into the forest and is pursued by Winnie. When Bela, Vlad's servant, abducts them, Dennis's anger causes his fangs to instantly sprout. Dennis defeats Bela, and the monsters team up to drive away Bela's bat army. Vlad is eventually won over by Dracula's claim that humans and monsters can coexist, and the family decides to raise Dennis in Transylvania.
