A protective vampire must hide a human guest from his monster friends and his daughter.

The story

Count Dracula is the owner of Hotel Transylvania, a sanctuary where the world's monsters can rest from human civilization. When a human traveler named Jonathan unexpectedly arrives at the 'human-free hotel,' Dracula must go to extreme lengths to hide the man's presence. He must ensure that his daughter, Mavis, and the other monster guests do not discover the human's presence, as a discovery could jeopardize the hotel's future and his career. The situation becomes complicated as Jonathan and Mavis begin to bond, forcing Dracula to balance his protective instincts with the reality of the situation.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 1895, after his wife Martha was killed by a human mob, Count Dracula built a massive monsters-only hotel in Transylvania to serve as a safe haven. In 2012, on Mavis's 118th birthday, she is allowed to leave the castle but is led back by a human, Jonathan 'Johnny' Loughran, who is hidden by Dracula as a monster. As the two 'zing,' Dracula tries to hide Johnny's identity while the other monsters enjoy his company. After a series of complications involving a hungry chef and a realization of Dracula's past, the truth is revealed during a party. Mavis and Johnny part ways, and Dracula leads a group of monsters to the airport to find Johnny. After a frantic chase and a moment of reconciliation, Dracula successfully brings Johnny back to Mavis, and the monsters celebrate together.
