Full plot (contains spoilers)

Five years after the peace between the Vikings of Berk and dragons, Hiccup and his dragon friend Toothless explore new lands. They are ambushed by trappers led by Eret, who serves Drago Bludvist, a warlord seeking to enslave dragons. During their escape, they find Valka, Hiccup's mother, who has been protecting dragons from Drago's influence. Stoick, Hiccup's father, discovers Valka is alive and reunites with her. Meanwhile, Drago's forces attack the dragon nest. A massive battle ensues where Drago uses a Bewilderbeast to control dragons. During the conflict, Stoick sacrifices himself to save Hiccup from a fatal blast. Later, Hiccup and his allies return to Berk on baby dragons to confront Drago. Hiccup manages to free Toothless from the Bewilderbeast's control, and the two enter a super-powered state to defeat the beast. The film ends with Hiccup becoming the chieftain of Berk, Valka staying with her son, and the dragons accepting Toothless as the new alpha.
