The story
A year after becoming chieftain, Hiccup, his dragon Toothless, and their fellow dragon-riders continue to rescue captured dragons to bring them to Berk. However, the island has become overpopulated and faces constant attacks by dragon hunters. In response, Hiccup seeks the 'Hidden World', a safe haven for dragons spoken of by his late father. Meanwhile, a white female Light Fury is captured by warlords and given to an infamous dragon hunter named Grimmel the Grisly as bait to capture Toothless. As the threat of the hunter grows, Hiccup must navigate the complexities of his bond with Toothless while preparing to protect their kind from the encroaching danger.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
A year after becoming chieftain, Hiccup, Toothless, and the dragon-riders find Berk overpopulated and under attack by hunters. Hiccup seeks the 'Hidden World' for the dragons' safety. A Light Fury is captured by Grimmel the Grisly, who seeks to capture Toothless. After a confrontation where Grimmel's forces damage Berk, the group flees toward the Hidden World. During the journey, they settle on 'New Berk'. Hiccup builds a new tailfin for Toothless, who then flies to the Hidden World to be with the Light Fury. Later, the group finds the Hidden World, but realize humans cannot stay there. Grimmel captures Toothless and the Light Fury, and the riders engage in a battle to rescue them. In the climax, Hiccup and Toothless face Grimmel; after a desperate chase, the Light Fury saves Toothless, and Hiccup is left behind as the dragons are released into the Hidden World. The film ends with a time skip showing Hiccup and Astrid's children visiting the dragons at the edge of the Hidden World.
