Hui Buh – Das Schlossgespenst (2006)

In the year 1399, Knight Balduin is at Burgeck Castle, trying to increase his wealth by gambling. When his opponent, Adolar, realizes that Balduin is cheating, the two knights fight. During the struggle, Knight Adolar gets Balduin into such a tight spot that Balduin cries out, “May I be cursed if I’ve cheated! May lightning strike me on the spot!” His words come true immediately: Balduin is suddenly struck by lightning and becomes the ghost Hui Buh. Startled, Knight Adolar stumbles backward and falls through a window into the castle moat. Five hundred years later, Hui Buh is the only officially licensed ghost at Burgeck Castle. He leads a peaceful life there with the castellan until one day King Julius the 111th moves into the castle to celebrate his engagement to Leonora, Countess of Etepetete. Hui Buh tries every means to drive Julius out, but pays for it when Julius burns his ghost license, without which Hui Buh is no longer an “officially licensed ghost.” As a result, his ghostly powers are taken away. When Julius tells the ghost about his money worries, he learns that there is a treasure at Burgeck, hidden in a room that can only be opened from the inside. But without his ghost license, Hui Buh can no longer walk through walls, making it impossible for him to retrieve the treasure. To obtain a new license and avoid ending up in the soul soup—which would mean his final death—Hui Buh has to take the ghost exam again. However, he is unable to answer the exam questions. When it turns out that Julius knows the answers, they decide to go together to Ghost Town, where the exam is held. But they are exposed and have to flee after passing the written exam. Daalor, the representative of the ghost authorities, is in fact Adolar, who is conspiring with Countess Leonora. Since he is an ancestor of the countess, they both want to claim the castle, which Balduin took from them through his cheating. However, they fail to kill King Julius. Meanwhile, the ghost authorities have learned of the conspiracy between Adolar and Countess Leonora, so the guards under Major Servatius Sebaldus arrest Adolar and Leonora, who has by then become a ghost, at Burgeck Castle. Thanks to the kind-hearted major, Hui Buh gets his ghost license back. Finally, King Julius and the maid Konstanzia get married.
