An alcoholic applejack maker must battle a determined colony of beavers to win the hand of a merchant's daughter.
The story
Beavers sneak into Jean Kayak's apple orchard and destroy his giant applejack kegs, leaving him inebriated and his orchard ruined. Awakening in the winter, a hungry and delirious Jean begins a desperate struggle for survival. He encounters a colony of beavers and, imagining them as food, is repeatedly overpowered. After learning to catch fish and selling them to a local merchant, Jean discovers the merchant demands hundreds of beavers before he can marry the merchant's daughter. Jean begins a series of increasingly creative and dangerous trapping efforts to secure the required pelts.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After his orchard is destroyed by beavers, Jean Kayak seeks to win the hand of the merchant's daughter, the Furrier, by providing hundreds of beavers. After a series of failed attempts at trapping rabbits and being beaten by beavers, Jean becomes the protégé of the Master Fur Trapper. Following the Trapper's death, Jean creates his own trapping guide and begins trading with a local merchant and an Indian Fur Trapper. He eventually discovers that the wolves have stolen the Trapper's hoard. Jean lures the beavers into the wolf den, allowing the wolves to slaughter them. However, he is tricked by two-dimensional scenery created by 'Sherlock and Watson' beavers. After being caught by beaver police and sentenced to execution, Jean escapes and accidentally launches a rocket ship built from his applejack keg, causing a flood that creates Green Bay. He eventually rides a snowball of beaver pelts to the merchant's cabin, where he is allowed to marry the Furrier.
