Renee Bennett, an insecure woman working for cosmetics firm Lily LeClaire, wishes to be beautiful and suffers a head injury. Believing she has magically transformed, she gains immense confidence, lands a job at the corporate headquarters, and begins dating Ethan. However, her new persona becomes increasingly superficial and judgmental. During a business trip to Boston, she suffers another head injury in a shower, which causes her to perceive her actual physical appearance again. Devastated, she isolates herself in New York, breaks up with Ethan, and falls into a depression. After meeting a beautiful acquaintance named Mallory who struggles with low self-esteem, Renee realizes the company's products are out of touch with real women.
