Full plot (contains spoilers)
Ten-year-old Justin Whitter is abducted, and Detective Greg Harper is assigned to the case. A green pocket knife links the crime to a series of abductions from 15 years prior committed by Cole Gordon. In the Harper home, Greg and his wife Jackie experience bizarre events, including missing items and Greg being trapped in a closet. Jackie's affair with Todd leads to a violent encounter where Todd is hit and hidden in the basement. While Jackie is out, Todd is murdered; Jackie and Greg eventually bury him to protect their son, Connor. Connor is later found tied up in a bathtub with a green pocket knife. Flashbacks reveal that two homeless people, Mindy and Alec, were squatting in the house. Alec caused the disturbances to make the family feel insane. Mindy witnesses Greg murder Todd. Alec later pushes Mindy down the stairs and hides her. Greg eventually kidnaps Justin and another boy, keeping them in a trailer. Mindy finds them and calls 911, but Greg kills her. Greg then stabs himself to frame Alec. Alec eventually confronts and shoots Greg. The truth is revealed: Alec was a survivor of Greg's childhood kidnappings, and he targeted Greg's home for revenge.
