The story
Set during the Pleistocene ice age, the film follows an unlikely herd of three mammals—Manny, a no-nonsense woolly mammoth; Sid, a loudmouthed ground sloth; and Diego, a sardonic smilodon. After Sid is left behind by his family and rescued by Manny, the two find themselves joined by Diego. The trio comes across a human baby and must navigate a dangerous prehistoric landscape to return the infant to its tribe while dealing with their own conflicting motivations and the looming threat of the ice age.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
During the Pleistocene, a herd of prehistoric animals migrates south to escape the ice age. Sid, a ground sloth, is separated from his family and rescued by Manny, a woolly mammoth. They encounter a human baby, Roshan, whose mother was washed away in a river. The trio—including Diego, a saber-toothed tiger—decides to return the baby to the human settlement. Along the way, they face various dangers and form bonds. Diego, initially tasked by his leader Soto to capture the baby for his pack, begins to doubt his mission after Manny saves him from a lava flow. The group eventually faces Soto's pack at Half Peak. In a final confrontation, Diego saves Manny from Soto, who is killed by falling icicles. Manny and Sid successfully reunite the baby with his father, and the three animals, now best friends, continue their journey south.
