A group of animals must navigate a crumbling continent and outrun a gang of pirates after a geological mishap.

The story

Many years after the events of the previous film, Manny and Ellie are raising their daughter, Peaches. When a sudden continental break-up caused by the frantic Scrat occurs, Manny is separated from the rest of his herd and finds himself stranded on a moving chunk of ice with Sid, Diego, and Sid's elderly grandmother. Simultaneously, the rest of the herd is forced to navigate a dangerous land shift. The two groups must find ways to reach safety while evading a menacing band of pirates led by the formidable Captain Gutt who seeks to enslave them.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Following a continental split caused by Scrat, Manny, Sid, Diego, and Granny are stranded on a floating ice chunk, while Ellie and Peaches are forced to navigate a land bridge. Manny's group is captured by Captain Gutt's pirates but manages to escape, taking the pirate's first mate, Shira, with them. Meanwhile, Peaches realizes her 'friends' among a group of mammoths are not actually loyal. The two groups eventually reunite at a location called Switchback Cove, where they discover Gutt's plans. After a series of maneuvers to free captured hyraxes and steal a pirate ship, the herd eventually faces Gutt again. During the final confrontation, Granny's pet, Precious, helps fend off the pirates, and Manny defeats Gutt, who is consumed by a siren. The film ends with the herd relocating to a lush island where the hyraxes have established a civilization.
