Full plot (contains spoilers)

A satire of military life in the barracks. Sergeant Francesco Garibaldi “Rompiglioni” is a man of unwavering integrity: he is utterly upright, yet loves classical music and opera. He applies this outlook to his regiment as well, with comic results. He is secretly in love with Anna, the housekeeper of Colonel Guglielmo. When the Alisei musical group arrives in Rome, the colonel’s daughter wants them to succeed with a performance in the barracks. Knowing of Rompiglioni’s passion for music, the colonel puts the group in his care, but Rompiglioni drives them away. The musicians then try to win him over with a fake letter about his debut at the Castrocaro Festival. Rompiglioni is taken in at first, but when he discovers the deception, he takes revenge by having Verdi’s “Nabucco” performed in the barracks in a completely original way.
