Full plot (contains spoilers)

Fifteen-year-old Carla Frank from Schleswig-Holstein lives with her father in a small apartment. After a fierce argument between them, she sets out to find her “missing” mother. Together with Rick, a young musician she meets by chance, she heads for Lübeck. But Carla’s mother no longer lives in her old apartment, though Carla manages to find out where her mother moved from there. So she and Rick set off for Glückstadt, but the woman they are looking for has not lived there for a long time either. Frustrated, Carla goes swimming in the North Sea and underestimates the waves. Rick manages to rescue her from the water just in time. After that, their relationship improves a little, since Carla had been rather prickly with Rick, even though he had willingly driven her around all day. While Carla continues her frantic search for her mother, her father has already called the mother and told her that Carla has run away. He is a police officer, so it was not difficult for him to find out where his ex-wife was staying. Marta Frank is a little surprised that Carla still has not arrived. By this point, however, Carla has been picked up by the police because her father reported her missing. At the police station, Carla learns that her mother lives nearby. Full of hope, Carla hurries to the address, only to find out that her mother is away. She cannot know that her mother has gone to her father’s place. An argument soon escalates there, and Erwin Frank shoots Carla’s mother and secretly removes the body from the house. When Carla returns home, she discovers the blood and confronts her father. Despite everything, however, she stands by him and does not turn him in.
