Full plot (contains spoilers)

In the first part (“Through Wild Kurdistan”), the evil former Pasha of Mosul falls from a cliff after a fight with Kara Ben Nemsi and is presumed dead. But he has survived the fall and is bent on revenge. He plans to seize the Chaldeans’ treasure, which is guarded in a cave by the legendary Marah Durimeh. The Pasha recruits the bandit Abu Seif (“Father of the Sword”) as an ally. Together, they kidnap Ingdscha, the daughter of the Chaldeans’ leader and also Marah Durimeh’s granddaughter. Kara Ben Nemsi and his friends set out to cross the great salt lake, but the Pasha shoots their guide. Kara’s sheepdog Dojan manages to lead them out of the lake. Before the Padishah, the Pasha succeeds in presenting himself in the best possible light and slandering Kara Ben Nemsi. As a result, Kara, who has only just been rescued, is promptly captured by the Padishah’s soldiers and forced to fight for his life in a “trial by ordeal.” After he survives, the Padishah restores him to his former rights, and the Pasha is once again regarded as the “villain.” By then, the bandits have infiltrated the Chaldeans’ stronghold, and only Ahmed El Corda, together with Hadschi Halef Omar and the warriors of the Haddedihn tribe, manages to repel their attack. Ahmed kills Abu Seif in a duel. The Pasha continues to besiege the mountain, however, and demands that all the dogs and cats be handed over. That night, he sends them back to the Chaldeans as living torches, while his men attack again. Marah Durimeh is killed, and the besieged seem doomed. But Kara Ben Nemsi and Hadschi Halef Omar lead the Haddedihn warriors behind the bandits, and they succeed in routing them. The Pasha flees, pursued by Kara Ben Nemsi. The two fight their final battle in a cable-car gondola crossing a gorge. The Pasha eventually falls into the gorge and is finally dead. The Chaldeans and their treasure are saved, and Ahmed El Corda can take his beloved Ingdscha into his arms again.
