The story
Guido Schiavi, a young magistrate from Palermo, is sent to Capodarso as a praetor. Determined to uphold justice and the rule of law, he confronts social injustices and clashes with Baron Lo Vasto and the Mafia, represented by estate manager Turi Passalacqua and his men. His work is obstructed by a pervasive climate of silence and deep mistrust. With support from Marshal Grifò, commander of the local Carabinieri station, and his young friend Paolino, Guido struggles to make the law meaningful to a community that resists his efforts.

Guido Schiavi, a young magistrate from Palermo, is sent to Capodarso as a praetor. His commitment to justice and the rule of law forces him to fight various social injustices. His zeal brings him into conflict with a local notable, Baron Lo Vasto, and with the Mafia, represented by the estate manager Turi Passalacqua and his men. All this unfolds amid a climate of silence and deep mistrust that does nothing but obstruct his work. Alone against everyone, supported only by Marshal Grifò, commander of the local Carabinieri station, and by his young friend Paolino—whose brutal murder persuades him to withdraw the resignation he has just submitted—he will fight his battle to the end. His struggle is not only to enforce the law, but also to teach people its value.
