Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1985 Mexico City, Heinrich Treadway steals 'the Egg' from Bathurst and commits suicide, hiding the object inside his own body. In 2020 New York City, Evan McCauley, a man with schizophrenia, is identified by Bathurst as Treadway. Nora Brightman, a reincarnation of Treadway's associate Leona, helps Evan escape and reveals the existence of the Infinites—people who remember past lives. The Infinites are split into Believers and Nihilists; the latter want to use the Egg to destroy life. Nora takes Evan to the Hub for training, but they are raided by Nihilists. They seek out Artisan, who uses a machine to restore Evan's memories, revealing Treadway hid the Egg in his body. After the Nihilists recover the body, Evan, Nora, and Artisan attack Bathurst's estate. Nora sacrifices herself to release the souls of contained Believers. Evan, tapping into Treadway's abilities, fights Bathurst, contains him with a weapon called the Dethroner, and sinks into the ocean with the Egg. Fourteen years later, Nora and Abel are reborn and reunite, while Evan is visited by Artisan in Jakarta.
