After a breakup, a café owner begins to reconsider romance while trying to uncover the identity of a secret admirer.

The story

Karlotta Holm’s café has finally become debt-free, and she proposes using an old, decommissioned church for a café and events. Her plans are complicated when she discovers her boyfriend Gunnar with another woman and ends their relationship. Reading letters from her late husband makes her realize how long she has gone without romance. Meanwhile, her daughter Linnea sets up a dating profile for her, and Karlotta discovers that her business partner Johan is using a pseudonym on the site. As she navigates the café project, an old van she once planned to restore, and unexpected messages from a secret admirer, she begins wondering who might be reaching out to her.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Karlotta Holm runs a café with her business partners, Astrid and Johan Wallin, and it has finally become debt-free. So she suggests a new business idea for how they could make good use of the money they are now earning. She could take over an old, decommissioned church from the parish and use it for a café and other events. Astrid is enthusiastic during the viewing, while Johan is more skeptical. Their employee Elias and her daughter Linnea think it is a great idea too. Her boyfriend Gunnar cannot come, though, even though his opinion would have mattered to her. At home, she then gets the idea of surprising him at his office with a bottle of champagne. But she finds him with another woman and breaks up with him. After packing up Gunnar’s things at home, she begins reading the love letters from her late husband, Jasper. She realizes that she has experienced no romance since then. The next morning, Gunnar comes by to pick up his things. There is still an old VW van in the yard that they had planned to convert together. She wants him to take it, but he is not interested. Linnea has set up a profile for her on a dating site, but Karlotta is not keen on the idea. As Linnea shows her how the site works, they come across a photo of Johan under the pseudonym Hans. Curiosity gets the better of Karlotta, and she wants to find out why he signed up. Later, the car dealer Mikkel stops by to look at the VW van. He is not interested in buying it, though, because he would have to put too much money into restoring it. But he offers to let Karlotta keep the van at his place and work on it herself. At the café, Astrid meets Oscar, who is taking a baking course with her. He is an architect and offers to help with the new project. During the viewing, Johan reacts jealously to Oscar. Mikkel has replaced the van’s flat tire. He tells Karlotta to simply follow him, but she can’t, because she has not driven in 16 years. Back then, Jasper died in a car accident. So Mikkel loads the van onto a trailer and takes it to his garage. While she is clearing out the van, she receives a message from Hans on the dating site. She replies. Elias comes by to help her with the van. When Karlotta gets home again, she finds a bouquet of flowers on the stairs with a card that says only, “Someone loves you.” Karlotta receives another message from Hans and arranges to meet him that evening. Oscar invites Astrid to the church to show her an initial design for the café. Karlotta rides her bicycle over a nail and gets a flat tire. Mikkel happens to be there and offers her a lift. At the meeting, it turns out that Hans really is Johan. Karlotta reproaches him for dating other women even though he is married to Astrid. Johan explains that he is no longer happy with Astrid. Unable to reach either Johan or Karlotta, Astrid calls Oscar to arrange to go to a concert with him. After Karlotta and Johan have talked things through, he takes her home. He then returns and sees Astrid and Oscar talking closely. After Oscar leaves, Johan berates Astrid. Then he calls Karlotta to tell her that Astrid knows about their meeting. The next day, Karlotta finds a card on her bicycle from the same admirer who brought the flowers. The flat tire has also been fixed. She suspects Mikkel is behind it and invites him over for the evening. At the café, she tells Elias about it. Oscar helps Astrid in the kitchen. Johan is still sulking, so he flirts with Karlotta instead. Astrid shows her partners Oscar’s ideas on site, but both of them reject them. They want Johan, not Oscar, to do the planning, since he studied architecture for a time too. Now Astrid is the one who is offended, and she tries to make the two of them see reason. When Karlotta meets Mikkel and wants to show him what she has already done on the van, she finds another letter and some furniture that has been built for it. She asks Mikkel to read the letter to her because she thinks it is from him. But he explains that he has nothing to do with it. Now she is at a loss, because she does not know who the secret admirer is. Linnea tries to help her figure out who the mysterious person is. She suggests that Karlotta write a letter to “Someone” herself and leave it in the van. The next morning, Johan is waiting outside her house because he urgently needs to talk to her. He admits he made a mistake and needs to work on his relationship with Astrid. That rules him out as the letter writer too. Karlotta now suspects her ex, Gunnar. But when she goes to see him, he does not respond to her hints. Astrid visits Oscar at his office, and he suggests that he could support her if Karlotta and Johan cannot make a decision. They plan to view the old church together with Oscar’s financial adviser, but Astrid sees that Johan is there too. At first, she wants to talk to him alone. They find their way back to each other, and Astrid tells Oscar that they no longer need him. Karlotta invites everyone to the inauguration of her renovated van. They persuade her to take it for a spin, but she cannot bring herself to do it. She tells Elias how she experienced her husband’s accident and how it still keeps her from driving. He suggests that the two of them face their fears and do something they have not dared to do before. The three owners have an appointment at the bank, and they ask Elias to look after the café. When he reacts strangely, Astrid suspects something, but Karlotta notices nothing. When they return to the café, he has disappeared, leaving his resignation on the counter. Now Karlotta is slowly beginning to realize who “Someone” might be. She goes to look for him at home, but finds only his cousin, who is clearing out the house. Karlotta returns home and finds a letter that the wind has blown away. In it, Elias confesses his love for her. Linnea gives her the crucial clue about where she might find him. Without hesitating, Karlotta gets into the van and drives to the train station. She finds him there, but Elias does not believe that she has only just read the letter. She manages to persuade him not to leave straight away and drives with him to the lake, where they talk things through and confess their love for each other.
