Erik Vanning is just returning from a sailing trip with his guests when he gets caught up in an incident on the shore with architect Tuva Lundin. She has a presentation for her boss, Johann Sondermann, who doesn’t like her design for the school at all. When she leaves afterward, Erik is still outside, and they exchange a few words. She lets him keep the model, since she no longer needs it. When Tuva gets home, her sister Sofia surprises her, saying she wants to spend a few days’ vacation with her. Shortly afterward, their best friend Malin turns up as well. Sofia suggests that they all go to see Ingeborg in Svaneholm and spend a few days there. On the way, Malin tells them she has fallen head over heels in love and will be getting married soon. Her chosen man just happens to be Tuva’s ex-boyfriend, Tomas Fransson. Then they run into Erik again, whose car has broken down. They tow him to Svaneholm so his car can be repaired. He is actually on his way to Luleå. When they arrive at their aunt Ingeborg’s, she is in the middle of preparing for the church festival, and the new pastor, Henning Nilsson, is there too. The three women spontaneously help out at the festival, selling cakes. At the dance, Malin openly flirts with Torben, the sausage seller. Tuva and Sofia think she hasn’t changed at all. Erik also asks Tuva for one last dance before he moves on. A little later, he suddenly appears in Tuva’s room because the repairs are taking longer after all, and Ingeborg has offered him a place to stay at her house. Tuva will therefore share her room with her sister. Before that, Sofia announces that she is three months pregnant. Outside, Ingeborg meets Henning, who proposes to her, and she accepts. Sofia cries in bed and confesses to Tuva that she broke up with her boyfriend, Alex, because he cheated on her with her best friend. Tuva has made breakfast for everyone, but Malin doesn’t have time to eat because she has a date with Torben. Ingeborg joins them, and Tuva finds it strange that she is still wearing the same dress as the night before. Henning comes by to tell Ingeborg that he is being transferred to Visby in the fall and wants her to go with him. Tuva barges in and finds out about her aunt’s relationship. Sofia joins them too. Both sisters don’t want Ingeborg to leave, because then no one will look after their childhood home. Meanwhile, Erik is fixing the broken stair railing, which really annoys Tuva. But since Erik can’t help it, she relents. He still needs some paint for it, so Tuva goes with him. On the way, she tells him what happened when her parents died in a car accident, and that Ingeborg took care of her and Sofia afterward. Erik tells her that he used to build boats before he went to sea. When they return, they finally grow closer and spend the night together. The next morning, Lilli—Erik’s daughter—suddenly turns up outside the house. He introduces her to Malin and Sofia, while Tuva is confused because Erik hadn’t told her about Lilli. Ingeborg has doubts about whether she should go to Visby with Henning, because she doesn’t want to abandon Tuva and Sofia. Erik wants to leave with Lilli, but she wants to stay a little longer. Sofia invites her to sleep in her room. Lilli talks with Tuva and finds out that she slept with Erik. Tuva and Ingeborg talk things through and realize that they have both been running away from relationships up to now. Erik learns from his ex-wife, Astrid, that Lilli ran away from home to see her father. She did it because she doesn’t want to go on vacation at the summer house with Astrid, her new husband, and her half-siblings. Tuva is confused because Malin is constantly spending time with Torben. Malin sets her straight, telling her it’s none of her business and that she should focus on her own love life instead of giving other people advice. Erik talks things through with Lilli. He is afraid they won’t be allowed to see each other anymore because her mother has custody of her. That evening, Malin comes to Tuva and Sofia’s room and apologizes. She admits that there is nothing going on between her and Torben. The next morning, Erik tries to explain to Tuva why he didn’t tell her about Lilli. Tuva reproaches him, saying she has lost her trust in him. When she goes for a walk afterward, she runs into her ex-boyfriend Tomas, who has come to visit Malin. Tuva tries to distract him because Malin is out with Torben again. When Malin returns, Tomas inadvertently hears from Ingeborg that she has been meeting Torben, which leads to a full-blown argument. Sofia has decided to move into the house with her baby. Malin demands that Tomas trust her and believe that there is nothing between her and Torben. Astrid turns up in Svaneholm and runs into Erik and Tuva in town. She wants to take Lilli home. Erik makes it clear that they have to let Lilli decide where she wants to spend the summer. Ingeborg has bought Sofia a plane ticket so she can talk things over with Alex. Tuva takes Sofia on a bike ride, and they pass the parsonage. Henning wants to talk to them about Ingeborg, but they assure him they won’t stand in her way and that they will solve their own problems. Lilli pours her heart out to Tuva, telling her how much her parents’ fighting is weighing on her. Tomas wants to run away, but Tuva stops him. She also assures him that she doesn’t believe Malin has anything going on with Torben. Lilli has run away again, and Erik and Tuva go looking for her. Tomas confronts Torben, and he doesn’t like Torben’s answer, so they get into a fight. Lilli sees what is happening and steps in. Back at the house, Tomas tells Tuva and Erik that he saw Lilli in town. As they are about to drive there in his car, Tuva realizes that Erik kept the model she made in Stockholm. Malin is still being cryptic about what she wants from Torben, but she assures Tomas that she loves only him. Erik and Tuva find Lilli at the harbor. She has met a man who owns a boat Erik built. Lilli explains that she didn’t run away, but was looking for a solution. She wants her father to start building boats again and to take over the sisters’ house. After that, they go to Astrid and explain their plan. After much discussion, she agrees. Sofia is packing when Malin calls her because she has a visitor. Alex has arrived, and they talk things over. Sofia tells him she is pregnant. Tuva goes to Henning and apologizes for her childish behavior. Then she goes to see Johann in Stockholm and presents him with the same model. Since he won’t support her, she will submit the model under her own name. Malin finally admits what happened with Torben: he taught her how to dance the waltz. Tuva asks Erik to move into the house with her and Lilli.
