A man rebuilding his life on the French Riviera must contend with the return of his former prison cellmate, who is determined to start a business with him.
The story
Young Mika is sent to prison after biting a judge’s hand to avoid threats from thugs outside the courthouse. There, he shares a cell with Poutine, a firearms enthusiast with a fearsome reputation. The two become friends, and Mika promises they will start a business together after Poutine is released. Three years later, Mika has changed his name and become chief financial officer at a large company on the French Riviera. He is preparing to marry his boss’s daughter when Poutine reappears, still intent on fulfilling their business plan. Mika tries to explain that Poutine’s idea of buying Russian helicopters for tourist rides is not feasible, while fearing that his old life could jeopardize everything he has built.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Young Mika is sent to court for fraud. As he leaves the courthouse, he is threatened by some thugs. He immediately goes back into the courtroom and bites the judge’s hand so he will be sent to prison, where he will be safe. Once incarcerated, he shares a cell with a man named Poutine, a firearms enthusiast and specialist in Russian weapons. Mika impresses Poutine with his knowledge of these weapons, and the two inmates become friends. When other prisoners extort money from Mika, Poutine protects him; the other prisoners fear Poutine because he is reputed to be crazy and uncontrollable. Mika gets out fairly quickly and promises his buddy that they will start a business together when Poutine gets out; they are bound for life, inseparable. Three years later, just as Mika has made a place for himself at a large company on the French Riviera, the past suddenly catches up with him: Poutine reappears just as Mika, now the company’s chief financial officer, is about to marry his boss’s daughter. The past is about to resurface, and Mika, who has changed his name, is afraid of losing everything. He will try in vain to get rid of this rather conspicuous and extravagant partner, but the stubborn Poutine sticks to the idea of starting a business with his friend. He plans to buy Russian helicopters and use them to take tourists on rides. Mika tries to make him understand that this isn’t possible, but Poutine firmly sticks to his plan. As his past catches up with him, Mika will need Poutine to get him out of his predicament, and in the end, they remain inseparable.
