A group of astronauts travels through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity as Earth faces a catastrophic blight.
The story
In the near future, humanity faces extinction due to dust storms and widespread crop blights. Cooper, a widowed former NASA test pilot, works as a farmer and raises his children, Murph and Tom, with his father-in-law Donald. Following a dust storm, Cooper and Murph discover that dust patterns in Murph's room result from a gravitational anomaly. Cooper recognizes the patterns as binary code specifying coordinates, which lead him and Murph to a secret NASA facility headed by Professor John Brand. Brand reveals a wormhole near Saturn leads to a system in another galaxy with potentially habitable planets. Cooper is enlisted to pilot the Endurance spacecraft through the wormhole to ensure humanity's survival.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In a future where Earth is dying from blight, Cooper, a former pilot turned farmer, discovers a gravitational anomaly in his daughter's room. The anomaly provides coordinates to a secret NASA facility where Professor Brand reveals a wormhole near Saturn leading to habitable planets in another galaxy. Cooper joins a mission aboard the Endurance to find a new home for humanity. During the journey, the crew explores planets where time is dilated; on one, a tidal wave kills a crew member, and on another, Cooper and Brand experience a 23-year jump in time on Earth. Cooper eventually finds himself in a tesseract—a multidimensional space constructed by future humans—where he communicates with his daughter in the past to transmit vital data. This allows her to solve a gravity equation. After the tesseract collapses, Cooper reunites with an elderly Murph, who tells him to find Brand. Cooper then travels to join Brand and the others who are establishing a colony on a habitable planet.
